Sold a Quilt in the Fabrications II Show

I'm very excited that I sold one of my quilts, Transformation No. 2,  that was displayed as part of the recent Fabrications II show at Studios on the Park.
Here are some pictures of it before I deliver it to its new owner.  I really enjoyed working on this quilt. Cotton Velveteen just hungrily accepts dye, making colors so luscious.  Creating all the marks with the thickened dyes was random, sometimes thoughtful, play.  Doing the embroidery over the period of many months was also a very enjoyable, meditative process.

Here is a picture of the whole quilt and below are closeups of squares and embroidery.

End of Fabrications show and almost end of school

Today is take down day for our Fabrications show at Studios on the Park in downtown Paso Robles.  Didn't get a chance to do much work on my art projects this week, but want to show off my students' ceramic Gothic creatures.  I think they're pretty cool and imaginative. Hope you will agree. Only 18 1/2 student days of school left, then two staff development days followed by summer, which means more time to create art!!!

Mother's Day

Happy Mothers' Day to all my blog readers who happen to be mothers.
My mom is the reason I love to sew and garden so much.

Here's the whole family on one of the many fun vacations we took.  My beautiful mom is to the right of me.  I'm driving (the whole family crazy as always, no doubt).

This is the last piece of embroidery that my mom was working on.  I still remember stitching on dresser scarves and pillow cases in the crowded car on many a family vacation.

It is still unfinished, maybe some day I'll finish it for her.  She was in early stages of Alzheimer's and had interesting color choices, unlike the more realistic ones she would have chosen in her earlier life.

Here's a closeup of hand embroidery in one my pieces.
Thanks for passing on your love of handwork mom.  I miss you.

Fabrications Show and Reception

Many great friends and fun strangers showed up last night for our Cutting Edge's show reception.  It was lots of fun. Thank you to all of you who took time to come out and see the show.

Here's a picture of Studios on the Park, where our quilts are displayed.

This is a picture of our quilts in the window.  Kathy's is on the left and the other three are mine.

Here I am waxing poetic about something, I'm sure.

Andi Perejda and her beautiful quilt.

Rene and one of her fabulous quilts.  Gay's quilt is behind Rene

Sharon and her wonderful quilt

Signe and her very textural quilt

Andi took this picture and caught me with my eyes closed, in a blissful smile
Honest, I had only one small taste of wine when this was taken.
